Padova and Vicenza are two prominent cities in the Veneto region, which neighbors with Emilia Romagna. In Padova students visit the Scrovegni Chapel (to see Giotto's most celebrated fresco cycle), the University of Padova (to see the classroom where Galileo Galilei taught and the first anatomy theater in the world), the Church of Saint Anthony of Padova (a worldwide pilgrimage destination), Caffè Pedrocchi (the sophisticated historical hang out of Padova's intellectuals), and the fruit and vegetable markets in the picturesque piazzas (Piazza della Frutta, delle Erbe, Prato della Valle- in the photo to the left).
Students travel to Vicenza, otherwise known as the 'city of Palladio,' to experience another pristine Veneto city and to admire some of architect Andrea Palladio's (1508 - 1580) masterpiece palaces and Olympic Theater. For who prefers ancient epochs, visitors can also find evidence of Vicenza's original settlers, the Euganei, and traces its urban Roman roots.
